Return to practice

Are you a nurse or midwife whose registration has lapsed? Are you looking to return to practice and re-join the NMC professional register? If the answer is yes, then we are offering an exciting opportunity for you to undertake the Return to Practice Programme for Registered Nurses and Midwives.

The theoretical element of this programme is delivered by the University of the West of England and consists of 6 taught days with clinical placements here with us at the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be offered a placement in one of our clinical areas to complete your practice requirements, where you will receive support, supervision and be assigned a sign off mentor. This clinical practice will support your application to reapply for NMC registration. Whilst completion of the programme does not automatically guarantee a permanent post, the Trust is keen to recruit returnee nurses into the most suitable ward or department.

You will receive a bursary funded through Health Education South West, 50% is paid near the start of the programme and 50% at the midpoint of the programme.
